Our association promotes for the understanding of our own roots and for the ability to use folklore and our cultural heritage as a source of joy, strength and inspiration.
We organize events and meetings around the year all around Finland. The basic forms of our activities are summer camps and meetings themed by the cycle of the year. Especially harvest, shrovetide and The spring ceremony are valued. The programme of the meetings is decided based on the local heritage including local foods, trades and crafts. Our activities also include reviving traditional festivities in forms of dancing and playing and via exchangin knowledge and skills.
Our educational activities have dealt widely from traditional skills and knowledge to warming a sauna and cooking. Sometimes we deepen our understanding of the ancient world via singing and sometimes even by reacting certain folkloristic tales.
The central thought behind all our meetings is to strengthen the sense of community trough supporting one another, passing knowledge from the elder to the young while still honoring and accepting each and every one as an individual.
Our educational methods are a good mixture of old and new. We practice practical things together and work even hand in hand if necessary. Yet we try to support each and everyones individual creativity via music, storytelling at the light of a bonfire, environmental art, improvisation and playful performances.
The programmes on our are versatile and diverse so each and everyone can find new strong points from oneself. In addition to our experienced permanent camp directors we frequently have art and handcraft professionals as featuring directors. All the supporting directors, "rootings" are former campers.
Our operations have been financially supported by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and ViSiO (Ecological Education Association).
